Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, with the peak measuring 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmāthā in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, lies on the border between Nepal and Tibet with its summit located on the Nepali side. This makes it the highest point on the Earth’s surface when measurement is taken from the centre of the Earth. Mount Everest is the most prominent mountain in the Himalayas and is part of the Seven Summits.

A handful of climbers have managed to reach the summit without the use of supplemental oxygen and those climbers have been heralded as some of the hardest explorers the world has ever seen.
